Exhibition: Red Centre Birds

Ngurratjuta artists will showcase an exhibition on the Central Desert bird theme. The exhibition includes paintings depicting the Emu dreaming, watercolour landscapes with birds in the West Macdonnell ranges – by Hermannsburg school artists, Black Cockatoos and more beautiful birds on paper and canvas.

An exhibition of contemporary watercolours, featuring works by the Hermannsburg school artists, will be shown alongside BighArt’s ‘Namatjira’ stage production at the Southbank centre in London. This exhibition will complement the Royal Academy’s Australia exhibition, which features original work by Albert Namatjira, showing in London currently. Ngurratjuta Many Hands artists, Kevin and Lenie Namatjira will be travelling to London for this special event.

Exhibition: Hermannsburg Artists – 75th Anniversary Opening Friday 30 August

75 years later, three generations of watercolour artists have emerged from the original Hermannsburg group, and the tradition remains vibrant and strong. Artists currently working in the tradition include Kevin Namatjira, Elton Wirri, Douglas Kwarlpe, Peter Tjutjatjata, Ivy Pareroultja, Lenie Namatjira, and Hilary Wirri as well as the deceased Kwementyaye Namatjira Jnr and Kwementyaye Katakarinja who are recognised as leading contemporary landscape artists.
