Cicada Press Workshop

Iltja Ntjarra professional development activity March 2019

Seven Aboriginal artists attended an intensive week-long printmaking training with Cicada Press at UNSW in Sydney in 2019. The purpose of the training was to provide knowledge, skill, and new networks to emerging and senior artists.
Michael Kempson, Director of Cicada Press and Senior Lecturer of Printmaking Studies at UNSW Art and Design directed the training program. The outcomes achieved in the workshop contributed to a range of national and international exhibition projects. Cicada Press has been working closely with a number of Aboriginal artists from across the country building an Aboriginal print portfolio and establishing ongoing working relationships with a number of artists and communities for the past eight years. Cicada Press is an educationally based research group at UNSW and functions as an educationally focused custom-printing workshop where individuals of high reputation are invited to learn and produce print-based work with the support of UNSW students and Sydney based artists.
