Steven Walburunga passed away in June 2017. He grew up in Ntaria (Hermannsburg community). When he was a teenager his family moved to Alice Springs.

As a child he regularly sat on the banks of the Todd River watching Basil Rantji paint. Watching Basil influenced Steven to begin painting himself, and he has been painting ever since.
